Captain Charlie's Fishing Report

I enjoy meeting new people and I especially
enjoy seeing old friends return year after year to renew
friendships and enjoy the superb Florida flats fishing we have here in
Homosassa.
I try to keep a regular log of what happens
over the month while Homosassa Red fishing. This is to let you know what is going on with the
Florida flats fishing in
our area.
January 2013 Fishing Report
Catching our limit of trout and redfish in between cold fronts with an occasional hook up of a Snook. A good client and friend, Sonny, caught a 36 inch Snook on light tackle with a jerk bait. Sonny had a good 20 minute fight which was a bonus along with the trout he caught that day. Also, my clients enjoy sight fishing for redfish tailing on shallow flats. It's challenging and rewarding when the redfish hits your bait.
Trout fishing this week should be excellent due to the warm weather forecast. The big black drum should be showing up at the end of January. Those of you who've fished with me for Drum know how much fun they are to catch. Calm weather, slick water and lots of sunshine are the ideal conditions to sight fish for Drum. They range from 20 lbs. to 80 lbs. on the Crystal River and Homosassa flats. These strong hard fighting Drum can also be caught on a fly rod.
Until next month, calm seas and tight lines to you.
