Most redfish catches have been oversized Bob at MacRae’s in Homosassa said that he was able to go fishing with Capt. Charlie Harris and Henry Morris this past week. They caught a total of eight redfish with one keeper, the rest being oversized up to 30 inches.

Bob said a lot of the redfish being brought in are oversized and are being caught on pinfish. The trout fishing is still spotty and there are a lot of tarpon in the river right off the dock at MacRae’s. While grouper fishing has not been that good lately, Tom Turvaville brought in a 10-pounder and one that was 23 inches. Tom caught the grouper in 2 1/2 feet of water.

Bill at Bluewater Bait and Tackle in Homosassa Springs said the Jay Ebert family had a great day of fishing recently. They were fishing near St. Martins and caught a mixed bag of fish, including whiting and trout. Highlights of the trip were Chelsea Ebert’s 5-foot gar and Jonathan Reynolds “The Shark Man’s” 4-foot black tip and 3-foot bonnet head sharks.

Junior at Skidmore’s in Crystal River said Billy Newton of Leesburg caught three trout and a cobia this past week. Newton was fishing near the Florida Power canal area using live pinfish and live shrimp for bait.

Diann at D & D Bait and Tackle in Inglis said she has had reports of several oversized redfish being caught and released in their area of the county. Jim Nelson and his son Johnny from Lecanto had to release several oversized reds before they caught their two keepers this week.

The big redfish are being caught on pinfish. Diann also said Kevin is leading the trout/redfish combo division of this month fishing contest at D & D. Kevin’s trout and redfish weighed 8 pounds 13 ounces and were caught on a jig and shrimp North of the Yankeetown boat ramp. According to Diann, other divisions in the contest are the longest shark and the heaviest cobia.
